Season 9 featured the marriage of Robin and Barney as one of the main storylines. Fans enjoyed seeing their development and were excited that their love would only get stronger. However, the creators were not finished with Ted and Robin, and put unnecessary complications into her relationship with Barney.
The biggest example is in Episode 22, “The End of the Aisle.” Ted finds Robin’s locket and allows Barney to give it to her. When Robin confronts Ted — knowing he found it — she tells him he is the man she should be with and expresses her desire to run away with him. In almost every moment of the series, Robin is portrayed as a woman who knows what she wants, and that image is shattered when she asks for Ted’s help in deserting her wedding. She becomes incredibly selfish, putting herself before everyone else and not considering the relationships she might ruin — not only Ted and Barney but also Lily and Marshall.
Though anyone could get cold feet, Robin has continuously turned Ted down; it makes no sense that she would suddenly want him. Given her previous attitude, it does not sound like she truly loves Ted. Rather, it appears she has fallen victim to the “nice guy” trope and believes Ted is entitled to her. Robin has never been that type of woman, and by making her behave in such a way, the writers turned her into a completely different person.
