“Invasion” was announced in early 2019, and it took some time for it to get off the ground. Kinberg and Weil were busy working on the upcoming film “The 355” and the series “Hunters,” respectively, when writing for “Invasion” began in earnest after Apple picked it up (via Deadline). Kinberg was initially slated to direct the pilot but had to pull out, which set back the production schedule. Chad Feehan was brought in to write and executive produce, but he was relieved of his duties in September 2019 after Kinberg and Weil became more available and increased their involvement in the series.
Once the show was finally in production, the pandemic happened, and filming had to shut down. “Invasion” became one of the first American TV series to resume production in August 2020, according to Deadline. Filming was completed in March 2021, as confirmed in an Instagram post by star Shioli Kutsuna, who described the shoot as “the longest and one of the most challenging experiences [she’s] ever had,” since “Invasion” filmed in four different countries.
Finally, after all that, the series is almost ready to come out. The first three episodes of “Invasion” premiere on Apple TV+ on Friday, October 22. Subsequent episodes will air weekly on Fridays.
