Heather Morris’ big break came in the form of an appearance in the second season of Fox’s “So You Think You Can Dance?” She didn’t make the show’s top 20, but the appearance landed her mainstream Hollywood attention. She became a regular backup dancer for Beyonce soon afterward and could be seen performing with the singer during her “The Beyonce Experience” world tour, among multiple other TV appearances. Morris also backed up Beyonce during her performance of “Proud Mary” with Tina Turner at the 2008 Grammys.
Morris moved from backing Beyonce into her own limelight after landing the role of Brittany S. Pierce on “Glee,” where she lasted as a regular for four seasons. She returned for multiple episodes during the show’s fifth season and five more during the show’s sixth and final season. She appeared on the 24th season of the American edition of ABC’s “Dancing with the Stars,” and was eliminated in the sixth week of competition.
She’s mainly worked in television since leaving “DWTS,” with lead roles in the TV movies “Psycho Wedding Crasher” and “Pretty Little Stalker” in 2019. In 2020 she got into a bit of a dust-up on Twitter after defending her late co-star Mark Salling (Puck), who died by suicide at the age of 35 just before he was slated to be imprisoned on possession of child pornography charges. In 2021, she also spoke to People Magazine about alleged on-set bullying committed by her co-star Lea Michele, explaining that in her opinion, co-star Naya Rivera was the only one who was “honest” about Michele’s alleged behavior.
Not a bad career for a gal who started out standing behind one of America’s biggest singing sensations.
