‘What If…?’ Season 2 Will Have An Episode Exploring ‘Black Widow’ Film

What If…? Season 2 will have an episode that explores the Black Widow solo movie.

Marvel Studios’ newest animated series What If…? reimagines stories and characters from the established Marvel Cinematic Universe canon through alternate visions thanks to the Multiverse. The new series already has a second season in the works, and that will explore Phase 4 stories, including Black Widow.

In an interview with TheDirect.com, What If…? production designer Paul Lasaine was asked if there were any specific Phase 4 storylines already established that we will see in Season 2. He responded with a direct reference to Black Widow:

“There’s an episode that is based on one of the movies that literally just came out with the woman with the red hair.”

Given her public lawsuit against Disney, it is unlikely that Scarlett Johansson will lend her voice talents as Black Widow in the next season of What If…?. In the first season, Lake Bell took over the role. Lake Bell is also known for her work at the DC Universe as the voice of Poison Ivy in the Harley Quinn animated series.

The first four episodes of Marvel Studios’ What If…? are available to stream on Disney Plus. Meanwhile, here is the synopsis for Black Widow:

In Marvel Studios’ action-packed spy thriller “Black Widow,” Natasha Romanoff aka Black Widow confronts the darker parts of her ledger when a dangerous conspiracy with ties to her past arises. Pursued by a force that will stop at nothing to bring her down, Natasha must deal with her history as a spy and the broken relationships left in her wake long before she became an Avenger.

Directed by Cate Shortland from a script written by Eric Pearson based on a story by Jac Schaeffer and Ned Benson, the Marvel film stars Scarlett Johansson, Florence Pugh, David Harbour, O-T Fagbenle, Ray Winstone, Olivier Richters, and Rachel Weisz.

The film is out now in theaters and Disney Plus via Premiere Access. Stay tuned for all the latest news on What If…?, Black Widow and the rest of the MCU, and be sure to subscribe to Heroic Hollywood’s YouTube channel for more original video content.
