Homecoming’ Actor Confirms He’s Back For ‘No Way Home’

Spider-Man: Homecoming star Jorge Lendeborg Jr. confirmed that he’s returning for the upcoming Spidey threequel No Way Home.

Spider-Man: Homecoming succeeded in more than just being a superhero movie because of its insistence on focusing on the character dynamics of high school students, akin to a John Hughes film. The MCU Spidey debut perfectly dabbled in the teen coming-of-age subgenre, mostly thanks to its relatable writing and awkward acting from its teen actors. One character who stood out was Jason Ionello, who co-hosted the hilarious, low-budget Midtown News with Betty Brant.

Played by Jorge Lendeborg Jr., Jason Ionello appeared in both Homecoming and Far From Home as Peter’s sort-of friend, though he was mostly associated with Flash. It was unclear if Ionello would return in the supposed Spidey finale, but the actor revealed to The Hollywood Reporter that his wannabe newsman is poised to make an appearance in No Way Home.

“Man, he does, bro. And very much like in the last one, he has very little to do with the core Spider-Man group. (Laughs.) He’s probably going to be home playing some video games.”

The actor also touched upon how he brushed up on his comedic and improv skills, which he expertly showed off in the Midtown News segments.

“Well, when I first got to L.A., where I no longer reside, I took a couple of UCB classes, which kind of set me up with the basics of improv. But before that, I feel like I got the majority of my improvisational style when I would just write a bunch of jokes at home. Kids would be out playing football, basketball or writing raps, but I would be home, just writing jokes. I tried stand-up comedy just so that I kept my funny sensibilities up. So yeah, I had a stand-up thing.”

While it’s exciting that Spider-Man: No Way Home features so many villains and potentially other Spider-Men, we’re hoping that it at least serves as a sendoff to the supporting characters who have appeared in the trilogy, like Jason Ionello, Betty Brant, Flash Thompson, and Mr. Harrington.

Here is the synopsis for Spider-Man: No Way Home:

“For the first time in the cinematic history of Spider-Man, our friendly neighborhood hero is umasked and no longer able to separate his normal life from the high-stakes of being a Super Hero. When he asks for help from Doctor Strange the stakes become even more dangerous, forcing him to discover what it truly means to be Spider-Man.”

Directed by Jon Watts from a script written by Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers, Spider-Man: No Way Home stars Tom Holland, Zendaya, Jacob Batalon, Tony Revolori, Martin Starr, J.B. Smoove, Marisa Tomei, Jon Favreau, Benedict Wong, Benedict Cumberbatch, and Alfred Molina.

Spider-Man: No Way Home will hit theaters on December 17, 2021. Stay tuned for all the latest news surrounding the film and be sure to subscribe to Heroic Hollywood’s YouTube channel for more original video content.
