Spencer Peaky Blinders Creator Steven Knight Reveals His Influences – Deadline

The Film That Lit My Fuse is a Deadline video series that aims to provide an antidote to headlines about industry uncertainty by swinging the conversation back to the creative ambitions, formative influences and inspirations of some of today’s great screen artists.

Every installment asks the same five questions. Today’s subject is Steven Knight, the prolific screenwriter and director who wrote Spencer, the Pablo Larrain-directed drama that opened today with Kristen Stewart playing Lady Diana. Knight’s scripts include Eastern Promises, Dirty Pretty Things, the pandemic film Locked Down and The Girl in the Spider’s Web, and who directed Tom Hardy in the Knight-scripted Locke, a compelling thriller that takes place with Hardy on the phone in a car. He also worked with Hardy as the showrunner/writer on the BBC/FX series Taboo, and is the creator of the period Netflix crime series Peaky Blinders with Cillian Murphy and Hardy, and the Jason Momoa-starrer See for Apple TV+. He got his start creating the British version of Who Wants to Be A Millionaire, the gameshow that became a worldwide sensation. Find out the films that helped forge his great career.
