Part Two’ Will Start Filming July 2022

Dune producer Mary Parent revealed when Denis Villeneuve’s sequel will begin filming.

After a successful opening and plenty of positive reviews, it has been confirmed that director Denis Villeneuve will get to make Dune: Part Two. The official announcement from Legendary also came with a release date of October 20, 2023. Given the 2023 release date, it was expected that filming on the sequel would start sometime next year.

Leading up to Dune‘s release, Denis Villeneuve revealed that he had already started work on the sequel. After Dune: Part Two was confirmed, Villeneuve shared that he didn’t want to rush production and that filming wouldn’t begin until the fall.

However, during a Q&A screening of Dune over the weekend at SAG-AFTRA Foundation in Los Angeles, The Film Stage’s Josh Encrinias shared on Twitter that producer Mary Parent revealed the upcoming sequel will start filming on July 18, 2022.

Here is the synopsis for Denis Villeneuve’s Dune:

Set in the distant future, Dune tells the story of Paul Atreides whose family accepts control of the desert planet Arrakis. As the only producer of a highly valuable resource, control of Arrakis is highly contested among the noble families. After Paul and his family are betrayed, the story explores themes of politics, religion, and man’s relationship to nature as Paul leads a rebellion to restore his family’s control of Arrakis.

Denis Villeneuve directed Dune from a script he co-wrote with Eric Roth and Jon Spaihts. The film stars Timothee Chalamet, Zendaya, Rebecca Ferguson, Dave Bautista, Stellan Skarsgard, Charlotte Rampling, Oscar Isaac, Josh Brolin, Jason Momoa, Javier Bardem, and David Dastmalchian.

Dune is now playing in theaters and on HBO Max. Stay tuned for all the latest news on the series, and be sure to subscribe to Heroic Hollywood’s YouTube channel for more original video content.
