Where’s The Beef? – Deadline


On Tuesday’s episode of CBS’ Late Show, Stephen Colbert talked about the great MEATFLATION. 

Due to Covid-19 and the surge of meat consumption at the height of the pandemic, meat prices are soaring. What will meat lovers do now? Colbert has a solution.

“We’re all going to have to switch to something without meat like taco bell.”

To explain what’s really going down, he introduces the Cargo Unchained: High Steaks Edition segment. The host explains that
meat producers are facing escalating costs in labor, raw materials and transportation. Prices for sirloin, boneless, Chuck roast and bacon have jumped by about 25 percent–a phenomenon experts are calling Meatflation. Its hard to say the term without chuckling a bit and Colbert makes light of how weird it sounds.

“Meatflation–also the name of my short-lived meat themed balloon company.”

Canadians are particularly effected by the skyrocketing prices as a rib roast can coast upwards of $100.

But Mr. Late Show understands the what real Canadian priorities as there is plenty of fresh meat to go around.

“The only hunk of Canadian meat worth that much is Ryan Gosling.”
