Dune: Part Two has found its Emperor Shaddam IV as Acadamey Award winner Christopher Walken joins the cast as the series antagonist.
The first Dune book tells a story that is relatively straightforward but is drenched in the politics of its universe and of the world of Arrakis itself. In the first film, the story it primarily seemed to tell was that of the conflict and rivalry between House Atreides and House Harkonnen. While it wasn’t entirely clear why Emperor Shaddam IV was aiding House Harkonnen, it was clear he was on their side but acted off camera. Now the sequel will show that character in action.
Over the past few months, director Denis Villeneuve has steadily been filling out the cast for Dune: Part Two. Florence Pugh is set to portray Emperor Shaddam IV’s daughter, Princess Irulan with Elvis star Austin Butler joining the film as antagonist Feyd-Rautha Harkonnen. Now it appears that the series has found the Emperor itself.
According to reports from a number of sources including Variety, Academy Award winner Christopher Walken is set to join Dune: Part Two as Emperor Shaddam IV. Walken is a big-screen legend having won his Oscar for his role in The Deer Hunter with over 138 acting credits to his name. It is currently unknown how big of a role he will have in the upcoming film.
