A r/BokuNoHeroAcademia subreddit post by u/Princess_Minou, features some original artwork referencing a scene near the end of Season 1, Episode 2 of “My Hero Academia.” The art depicts Izuku Midoriya doubled over on his knees, clutching his shirt, unable to contain his sobs. They are joyful tears; he has just received the words he has been needing to hear most, and they come from All Might himself. “Young man, you, too, can become a hero,” the now older, frailer warrior says. All Might has his own hidden weaknesses and insecurities, and after witnessing a selfless act of courage from Izuku, his initial perceptions of the boy are shifted. He seems moved to not only reciprocate Izuku’s vulnerability (by sharing that his own powers are now fading), but he takes an additional step of offering sincere encouragement.
The scene also highlights one of Izuku’s greatest character strengths: his heart’s openness. “What I like about Deku is that he lets his emotions express themselves,” u/Princess_Minou wrote. “He’s not super badass like All Might yet, but that’s normal, he’s learning and we want to encourage him until the end.” u/AarkaediaaRocinantee added, “I personally love that he’s not some stoic hero that never shows emotions unless pushed too far.”
“Gives me goosebumps every time,” u/projectmayhem42099 commented, to the agreement of several other users. Anyone who has had a teacher or mentor figure believe in them in the past may be able to relate.
