Tom Cruise ‘BANNED Top Gun: Maverick crew from drinking alcohol on strict film set’

Tom Cruise reportedly banned the Top Gun: Maverick crew from indulging in a few bevvies, despite it being perfectly acceptable to ‘go drinking’ on most sets.

The actor, 59, is said to have kept a strict order behind the scenes on the blockbuster, and staff have even claimed they were told to keep partying ‘to a minimum’.

A source told The Mirror: ‘On most sets, the cast and crew socialise and go drinking but on Top Gun, they were told to keep partying to a minimum.’

Starring man Miles Teller, 35, even admitted: ‘There were days after a tough shoot I could have really used a couple of beers… but you just don’t want to be flying at those speeds hungover.’

He went on to confess that after he made an exception only once while attending a wedding, he endured a ‘rough’ following day at work.

The Pennsylvania-native, who plays Bradley Bradshaw in the picture, said: ‘The next day I had flight training in 100C heat. That was rough.’

MailOnline has contacted Tom’s representatives for comment.

The Oscar nominee’s strict orders have clearly paid off because film critics have been hailing the upcoming movie as a triumphant return for Tom, praising the actor’s awe-inspiring stunts flying an actual fighter jet.

The sequel to Tony Scott’s classic 1986 blockbuster has been unanimously praised in early reviews with one even declaring that it ‘improves upon the original in every conceivable way.’

He has reprised his role US Navy pilot LT Pete “Maverick” Mitchell, and reunites with Val Kilmer who is also back in a small cameo part playing LT Tom “Iceman” Kazansky.

Tom, who is famous for doing his own stunts, is said to have trained to withstand g-force power and actually flew in real fighter jets for the sequel.

Peter Hoskin for the Daily Mail gave the film five stars, writing: ‘Whenever the film threatens to become too cosy, it shocks itself – and us – back into the present with another madly ambitious action sequence.’

‘The final mission, with fighter jets buzzing around a snowscape, is an astonishing display of film-making bravado. It’s loud, sometimes silly, often crazy. But in the end, the moral of the heart-stopping story is clear: Tom Cruise is a rootin’-tootin’ hero.
